[more information…] The Welsh Assembly Government’s flagship programme Communities First has the long term aim to improve the living conditions and prospects for people in the most disadvantaged communities across Wales. It allows local people themselves to decide what is needed, and they are then supported in these decisions to make these changes happen within their local community. Following a reclassification of the Wales Index of Multiple Deprivation in 2005 more areas within Wales have been added to the Programme, the latest being Town & Park, Merthyr Tydfil. The Town & Park Communities First project has been in place since June 2007 and is based at 88, Pontmorlais, Merthyr Tydfil.
Park 3 is a Lower Super Output Area situated to the north/north east of the Merthyr Tydfil Town Centre area of Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council which sits in a natural basin at the northern end of the Taff Valley. The Local Authority area of Merthyr Tydfil is the second smallest authority in Wales. The population of Merthyr Tydfil CBC is approximately 55,000 people. Park Ward itself has a population of 4307 with 2007 households, whereby Park 3 has a population of 1526 with households amounting to 797. The majority of the population is that of 50-79, closely followed by 19-49 year olds with the lesser of the population being that of 0-18 years.
